It's hard to believe that it is already time for Fall Break. Today is our 42nd day of school. Time truly flies.
We will have Parent/Teacher Conferences Tuesday, October 15 and Wednesday, October 16. There will be no school from October 16 through October 18. If you haven't signed up for conferences already, please do so today. I hope everyone has a safe and fun Fall Break. Next week, on Thursday, October 24, the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Caring Van will be here to administer Flu shots to those children who are eligible. This year the kids have to have Soonercare/Medicaid, be Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or not have insurance to be eligible. There will be paper work for you to fill out if you wish to have your child receive an injection. On Thursday, October 31 we will be going to the Pumpkin Patch in Porter, OK. Please send back the permission slip if you haven't already. Before you know it, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas! Tonight's "Back to School Bash" was not exactly what we had planned, but we still had a good time. I got to see four of my students and hopefully I will see more tomorrow. Even though we have had more rain than we really wanted the past few days, I know we are all happy to have it after the last two summers.
Happy Summer! I hope you and your child are having a great summer full of vacations, reading, swimming and watermelon. I have had a great summer, but I am getting excited about school starting. I hope your child is almost ready to start back to school too.
I wanted to let you know a little bit about me. I am an Oklahoma native and I have lived in Okmulgee for almost 21 years. I went to Oklahoma State University for my undergraduate degree right out of high school. After teaching for many years, I went back to school at Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow and got my Master’s Degree in Reading. I taught First Grade at Marian Academy Catholic School for thirteen years. I taught for four years at Okmulgee Primary School. This is my fourth year at Stonebridge Academy, so that makes this my 21st year of teaching. Holy Cow!! I don’t feel that old. I am married to Jeff and have two sons, Connor and Riley. The boys are both attending Stonebridge Academy in Sixth and Eighth Grade. There are a few things I want to let you know about. Tuesday, August 13 will be our Back to School Bash at Kiddie Lake. Come and join us for dinner at 5:30. Dinner will be provided by the school. You don’t need to bring anything. On Wednesday, August 14 we will have a Meet the Teacher day at the school from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This will be a come and go event. Come by if you can’t come to the Back to School Bash or if you want your child to see their classroom. As Mr. Hawthorne said in his letter a couple of weeks ago, the entrance to the building has been moved. There will be signs to make it clear about where to enter the building. Please remember to park either in the Orpheum parking lot or on the west side of the First Christian Church if you need to get out of your car. Otherwise, drop off is still in the alley on the north side of the building. If you have not yet ordered uniforms for you child, now is the time! I hope you have already ordered. Remember that only the khaki and blue items are allowed. No white shirts or navy shorts, skorts, pants or jumpers are allowed with the uniform policy. Everyone wears Stonebridge T-shirts and jeans or shorts on Fridays. If your child has a T-shirt from last year, that shirt is fine. If your child doesn’t have a T-shirt or needs a new one, there will be an opportunity to order one very soon. School does begin on Thursday, August 15th at 8:00. Students are counted tardy at 8:00 so please make sure your child is on time every day. Remember that your child must bring their lunch every day. If the lunch needs to be heated up, please send it in an appropriate container for heating and keep the heating time under 3 minutes. Thanks for your help with this. I will be buying your child’s school supplies, so there won’t be anything you need to send to school right away. As the year goes on, there may be things that I will ask for your help with. If you did not sign up for e-alerts last year, please sign up for those now. This is how the school can communicate with you quickly in the event of a school closing or an emergency at school. You can sign up for e-alerts through the school’s website. The web address is www.sbridgeacademy.org I also have a classroom blog. The web address for this is http://mrsalexandersstonebridgeclass.weebly.com I know this is incredibly long, so you can also get to it from the school’s website, which is much easier to remember! Communication between parents and teachers is a vital part of a child’s education. Please feel free to contact me any time you have a question or concern. You can call the school during the day at 918-752-1200. You can also e-mail me at [email protected]. If the school does not have your most current e-mail address, please get it to either the office or me as soon as possible. I know this is a lot of information, but you have a little while to mull it over. I will be ready to answer all your questions at the Back to School Bash or Meet the Teacher day. Or, you can e-mail me any time between now and then with your questions. I hope that we have a wonderful year together! Mrs. Alexander I can't believe that so much time has already passed this school year. It's already November! This week we talked about voting and that voting is a choice. We also discussed that only adults can actually choose a president. We voted as a class today for president. Our class chose Mitt Romney over Barrack Obama, 7 to 4. We used secret ballots and voted in private. For the most part we were all able to accept the vote with a little bit of disappointment from some of the children. Hopefully all the adults in our world will be able to react appropriately to the vote as well. |
