I am a native Oklahoman and I have lived in Okmulgee since 1993. I attended Oklahoma State University for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with dual certification in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I attended Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow for my graduate degree in Reading: Literacy Education. I taught First Grade at Marian Academy Catholic School in Okmulgee for 13 years, Pre-K and Kindergarten at Okmulgee Primary School for four years and now I am at Stonebridge Academy, where I feel completely at home. My parents and my in-laws are in Okmulgee, which is wonderful for my two sons, Riley and Connor. Both boys go to Okmulgee High School. Riley is a Junior and Connor is a Freshman. My husband, Jeff, has lived in Okmulgee almost his entire life. I look forward to staying in Okmulgee and watching my children grow up here.
I have always loved to read and I think that is why I have always wanted to teach First or Second Grade. There is so much growth in those two years and children go from non-readers to good readers. The growth is exciting! I can't wait to watch the kids I teach turn into responsible, productive adults. And, I have been teaching long enough now, that I am starting to see former students turn into adults, which is honestly, a little terrifying. This is the third year that I am teaching Third Grade and I have discovered that I really love it.
